In Memory of Bryon Weiss (1939-2026)
Byron Thomas “Whiz” Weiss, a lifelong Denver resident and beloved figure in our city’s real‑estate and industrial community, passed away on March 17, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on December 28, 1939, Byron was a proud graduate of East High School’s class of 1957 and went on to build a life and career deeply rooted in Denver’s growth and character. He founded and led Porta Power Inc., dedicating over 30 years to his business and serving generations of local customers with integrity and passion.
Most notably, Byron acquired the Denver Rock Drill property in RiNo in 1993, long before the area’s rapid transformation. For more than three decades he stewarded the industrial campus with vision and patience, recognizing its unique character and potential even when few others did. His commitment to preserving its gritty, historic fabric and his steadfast pursuit of a thoughtful redevelopment left an indelible mark on the neighborhood’s identity. Counts of his encyclopedic knowledge of Denver and his generosity with time and stories reflected both his love for the city and his belief in community‑centered progress.
Byron’s family, friends, and the broader Denver community remember him as more than a property owner — as a mentor, a steward of place, and a man who lived his values with quiet determination. His legacy lives on in the evolving story of Denver Rock Drill and the many people he touched throughout his life.
